The following can assist with swallowing difficulties encountered while eating and drinking:

Targeted therapy can improve speech that is difficult for others to understand. 

There are many reasons speech can be difficult to understand, including not saying certain sounds correctly; speaking too quietly; speaking too quickly; not having enough breath support; or not saying sounds clearly ('mumbling' or 'slurring'). 

Therapy for social communication is aimed at improving social skills; conversation skills; understanding social cues from other people; and understanding of social situations.

'Expressive language' involves using the right words and sentences when we speak; and 'receptive language' involves understanding what others say to us. Therapy sessions can improve one's ability to express themselves clearly; and provide strategies to better understand what others say.

It can be difficult to control our emotions and express them in a healthy way. Therapy sessions can improve awareness of our emotions; how to label them; how to express them in a healthy way; and how to regulate them.

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) can involve high-tech devices and apps that improve communication; or low-tech/no-tech communication aids such as picture cards, visual resources, and Key Word Sign. 

Speech Street can help assess and implement AAC, as well lodging applications to the NDIS if a particular device is found to be suitable.

Therapy sessions can assist with increasing literacy skills; and/or providing assistive technology and aids for those with low literacy skills.
